FamilySearch
FamilySearch lets you search some genealogical records, family trees, and create your own family tree online.
New Providence Memorial Library is a FamilySearch Affiliate Library. At NPML, you can view over 400 million digital original records in FamilySearch, including name indexes and images, that cannot be viewed from home.
You must use the library computers or a device connected to library wifi to access the additional records on FamilySearch. Ask for a computer guest pass at the front desk if you plan to use one of the computers. Then go to Family Search and log in with your personal login.
FamilySearch Affiliate Libraries have access to most Family History Center-only databases, but not all. You may need to visit a Family History Center for some records.
HeritageQuest
HeritageQuest allows you to search Census records, books (family and local histories), wills & probate records, city directories, military records, immigration records, the Social Security Death Index, cemeteries and more. Accessing HeritageQuest from home? It will ask you to log in with your library card's 14 digit barcode number.
HeritageQuest offers the same Census data as Ancestry.com for the US, UK and Canada, as well as the same obituaries from Newspapers.com, city directories, US public records, Freedman's Bank records, and the Social Security Death Index. Unlike Ancestry, you must choose the collection you are searching in HeritageQuest (for example, all census records) before you can search for a person.
