Genealogy

Ancestry Library Edition

Ancestry Library Edition can only be accessed using the library wifi or library computers.

Ancestry Library Edition lets you search family history records that include the US Federal Census (1790 to 1940), the Social Security Death Index, draft registration records, passenger lists, directories, narratives, probate, land title records, and some Canadian and UK census records.

FamilySearch

FamilySearch lets you search some genealogical records, family trees, and create your own family tree online.

New Providence Memorial Library is a FamilySearch Affiliate Library.  At NPML, you can view over 400 million digital original records in FamilySearch, including name indexes and images, that cannot be viewed from home.

You must use the library computers (or a device connected to library wifi) to access the additional records on FamilySearch.  Ask for a computer guest pass at the front desk if you plan to use one of the computers. Then go to Family Search and log in with your personal login.

FamilySearch Affiliate Libraries have access to most Family History Center-only databases, but not all. You may need to visit a Family History Center for some records.

HeritageQuest

HeritageQuest allows you to search Census records, books (family and local histories), wills & probate records, city directories, military records, immigration records, the Social Security Death Index, cemeteries and more.

Sunlight to read by

Spring is sprouting with crocuses and evening sunlight. It's a great time to shake of the winter cobwebs and get outdoors.

Take a walk to the library to check out a book, and use the natural light to read a little longer. You can browse our full catalog from anywhere. If you'll be out getting some exercise, try downloading an audiobook to keep you going. You can even stream music from Hoopla to add a little rhythm to your day. If you're suffering from cabin fever, the library is a great place to visit, no matter the weather. Pick up a Library Travelers Passport and collect stamps in our Around the World Community Read!  Attend one of our great free events for kids, teens or adults, including Makers Day weekend March 24-25.

There's so much to do at your local library. Mark down dates from our Calendar to add to yours. Join us!
