Movie - The Band's Visit
Wednesday, August 07, 2019, 01:00pm - 02:30pm

On an ordinary day, the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra arrives in Israel from Egypt for a cultural event, only to find there is no delegation to meet them, nor any arrangements to get to their destination of Petah Tiqva.  When they find their own ride, they arrive instead at the remote town of Beit Hatikva.  Stuck there until the next mornings bus, the band, led by the repressed Tawfiq Zacharaya, gets help from the worldly cafe owner, Dina, who offers to put them up for the night.  As the band settles in as best it can, each of the members attempts to get along with the natives in their own way.  What follows is a special night of quiet happenings and confessions as the band makes its own impact on the town and the town on them.  The film stars Sasson Gabai, Ronit Elkabetz, Saleh Bakri and Khalifa Natour.  (In Hebrew, Arabic and English with English subtitles)

Holiday Building Closing

The Library remains open even if the building will close for a little while...

Because of rising rates of COVID-19 infection in the County and in the town of New Providence, we are being cautious and closing our building to public access from Monday, December 21 through at least Monday January 11 subject to a decrease in infection levels.

Staff is, of course, in the building and we will continue to offer foyer pickup, craft kits and window shopping.  We also have special book bundles prepared for fast  and contact-free gift giving which are available in the foyer.  Take advantage of our Choose 3 Books for Me service or use the Browse Our Shelves feature to request items.  Make sure to check out Ms. Sam's Story Time Room to make browsing for kids' books fun and high tech.

Check our full schedule of events, too.  We look forward to welcoming you back into the library in the New Year and we hope that the holidays bring peace, joy and health to you and all of your loved ones.
