Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

4 stars of 5

“Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe is one of the classics of world literature. Achebe’s writing, packed with details and proverbs, immerses readers into the life of Okonkwo. This novel takes readers through an emotional roller coaster as it deals with themes such as morals, masculinity, tradition, and change.

The novel tells the story of Okonkwo, a Nigerian man who rose from poverty through sheer hard work and determination to become one of his tribe’s wealthiest and most respected men. The reader follows Okonkwo as he deals with issues such as raising a family, being exiled, and resisting European influences.

This novel is perfect for readers looking for lots of great plot twists. Achebe’s writing is perfectly paced, leaving readers constantly interested. However, much of the symbolism and deeper meanings may be harder to understand, and Achebe uses intricate proverbs to express many of the themes. Overall, this novel is a great piece of storytelling and a classic work of literature.
